Primary School Curriculum

The International School of Estonia is an IB-PYP "candidate school" and has been implementing the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) since the year 2000.

The PYP is designed for students from 3 to 12 years of age. It is an international programme focused on the total growth of a developing child. The programme strives to create a relevant and engaging educational framework for all children.

Curriculum Model
The curriculum model is inquiry based and transdisciplinary. The framework for learning and teaching, or Programme of Inquiry (POI), is based on six organising themes:

•Who we are
•Where we are in place and time
•How we express ourselves
•How the world works
•How we organise ourselves
•Sharing the planet

Reproduced with the permission of the IBO

These themes provide guidance for both teachers and students as units for study are developed. During this process, students develop an understanding of important concepts, acquire essential skills and knowledge, develop positive attitudes, and learn to act responsibly.
