Kai Vaarandi

Born 12. 10. 1958 in Tallinn, ESTONIA.
Graduated from the Estonian Art University in 1983, speciality: ceramics.


1992 - member of the Artists' Union of Estonia.
1993-1996 - head of the Ceramists' Union of Estonia.
1996 - received a grant from the Estonian Cultural Fund.
Since 1994 lecturer at the Estonian Academy of Art.


Works: ceramics , china painting , water colour painting, silk painting. Works have been exhibited since 1982.


 Silk-painting since 1992.

1990 - Tallinn, "Munkadetagune" Gallery (water-colours)
1991 - Fortress of Purtse, Estonia (painted china)
1992 - Tallinn, Town Hall Prison Museum (painted china)
1992 - Tallinn, café "Bogapott" (painted silk).
1996 - Tallinn, Adamson-Eric's Museum , exhibition named "Painting on Material" (painted silk and china).


1999 - participated in the contest-exhibition Soie Mediterranee in Marseilles, France.

 Vello Laanemaa

Born 01. 10. 1958 in Tartu, ESTONIA.
Graduated from the Estonian Art University in 1982, speciality: industrial design.
Works: 1978 - 1995 : posters, trade marks , company design, variety of advertising media, exposition and interior design , prefabricated log houses ; exposition of herbarium
also architectural scale model s.
Intaglio printing s: 1994 - "Kunda Nordic Cement" ordered an etching,
to commemorate the opening of the new Port of Kunda;
1995 - "Teede REV 2" an Estonian road-building firm purchased an etching,
which presented a panorama of roads and landscapes of the Harju County, Estonia.
1996 - "Via Pont" - a company, specialised in bridge building,
ordered an etching narrating the history of bridge-building in Estonia.
2000 - Silberauto AS, Main Office of DaimlerChrysler in Estonia
commissioned an intaglio for occasion of the 10th anniversary
of representing of Mercedes-Benz in Estonia.
 Silk-painting since summer 1993. About ten silk paintings have been reproduced and published by Paletti and Huma as
 postcards .
Three of them were chosen to be the official Christmas cards
of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia in 1998-2000.
In 1999 V.L. designed the official Christmas card for the Riigikogu / Estonian Parliament .

2000 - taught a silk painting class for advanced level in Tampere, Finland.
Solo exhibitions :
1997 - Tallinn, hotel "Olympia" (silk paintings), 1998 - Tallinn, on the premises of the Mercedes-Benz Estonia (photos). Drawing s and photo s on display at Teede REV-2, silk paintings at Via Pont, both in Tallinn.
1998 - the Estonian State Chancellery commissioned a medal design, dedicated to the resistance movement of 1941-1978 against soviet terror.
Joint exhibitions:
1996 - Tampere, Finland; in the Leaders` Training and Education Centre (etchings, painted china, silk paintings).
1998, 1999, 2000, 2001 Tallinn, on the premises of Daimler-Chrysler (Mercedes Benz) main office in Estonia (silk paintings).
1998 - Washington D.C., Embassy of Estonia in the U.S.A. (silk paintings, graphics, drawings).
1998 - participation in the First World Silk Painting Congress as instructors of three different workshops ("V.Laanemaa`s method of wet-on-wet silk painting", "Colourful brush techniques", "Painting ready-made ties - K.Vaarandi" etc.).
1999-2000 - Paris, Embassy of Estonia in France (silk paintings, graphics, drawings).
2002 - Winter Paintings  in the foyer of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, Tallinn
